Henry's Fork of the Snake River originates at Henry's Lake near the Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming border. Originally, only Cutthroat Trout existed in the lake. Now there are Rainbow, Cutthroat, and Brook Trout. This is a nice Cutthroat Trout that was caught from my float tube. |
Henry's Fork of the Snake River flows out of Henry's Lake and meanders south until it joins the South Fork near the town of Lorenzo. Rainbow Trout are the predominant species in the upper Henry's Fork. This is a beautiful 18 inch fish caught in the Box Canyon. |
My Brother-in-Law Brennan Birkenbine and I floated the Box Canyon of the Henry's Fork as the Stone Flies were just beginning to hatch in 2005. Brennan caught this 16 inch Rainbow on an ugly black Stone Nymph. |
The Box Canyon can be fickle. On this day Brennan and I didn't find many cooperative fish. This Rainbow broke the trend and brought some satisfaction to our efforts. |
The picturesque flats of the Henry's Fork near the town of Last Chance, Idaho are revered for the excellent Dry Fly opportunies. Rainbows to 25 inches or more can be found in this section. This specimen is about 16 inches. |
On a very cold and rainy June day in 2005, Randy Francis and I floated the Henry's Fork below the confluence with the Warm River to the Ashton Bridge. This section hosts both Rainbow and Brown trout in good numbers. Randy caught this 14 inch Rainbow on a big, bushy Stonefly imitation. |
I went fishing on Henry's Lake in October 2009 with Randy Francis and my Cousin Scott Cook. We each caught several Cutbows like the one I am holding in this photo. This fish was 19 inches. |
